Andrea
L. Houk, LMT, RN, Diabetes Educator
Co-founder and CEO
Andrea is a Colorado Springs native who has personally lived
with diabetes for over 27 years. Diagnosed with Type I diabetes
as a teen, she struggled for years with extremely high blood
sugar levels. Diabetes care is her passion, as she realizes
that proper education could have prevented years of struggle
and several resulting complications. She has been a participant
in a variety of research studies through the Barbara Davis Center
for Diabetes since 1987 and is an active member of several diabetes
associations including the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s
local chapter . She also enjoys rock climbing with her husband,
photography and is active in her church and community. |

Deanne
Vialpando, RN, Diabetes Educator
Co-founder and COO
Having diabetes since age 12, Deanne has a passion to help others
with diabetes self-manage their health and live life to their
fullest potential. Before becoming a registered nurse she had
extensive experience in acute care, dermatology, and family practice
as a registered medical assistant. As a Colorado native, she believes
in being involved in the local diabetes community, including the
American Diabetes Association and the Juvenile Diabetes Research
Foundation. She also enjoys spending time with her family outdoors;
camping, biking, and motorcycle riding. |

Jessica
Brenner, RD,
Registered Dietitian
Jessica's passion for diabetes stems from observing her grandfather's
complications with the disease. As a Registered Dietitian with
a degree in nutrition from Purdue University, Jessica's goal
is to help others prevent diabetic complications before they
reach the severity that she witnessed her grandfather experience.
Because nutrition is key in the management and prevention of
diabetic complications, Jessica strives to provide expert care
by educating patients on the importance of diet and their disease.
She believes that individualized meal planning and coaching
are necessary for life-long success. Jessica is originally from
Indiana, but moved to Colorado Springs to pursue her career
as a Registered Dietitian. In her free time, she enjoys climbing,
snow boarding, and cooking. |

Patricia Allen, RN
Spanish-Speaking Nurse
Patricia graduated as a Registered Nurse in Colorado Springs,
but is originally from South America. Being in the nursing field,
she realized that diabetes can touch anyone’s life but
found this to be especially true in the Hispanic population.
Having awareness of this problem, Patricia has a personal commitment
to help the Hispanic community become more educated about diabetes
and empowered against this disease and any other preventable
chronic disease that can affect this population. She enjoys
her family, religion and tries to live life to its fullness.
Diabetes puede tocar tu vida o la de cualquier persona a tu
alrededor, investigaciones medicas confirman ampliamente esta
realidad especialmente si eres hispano. Teniendo un mayor entendimiento
de este problema, Patricia tiene un cometido especial de ayudar
a dicha población a ser educada y tomar control en contra
de la diabetes o de cualquier otra enfermedad crónica
que afecte a los hispanos y que pueda ser prevenida.
Patricia se graduó como enfermera en Colorado Springs,
pero es de origen Sur Americano, ella disfruta su familia, vivir
su religión y trata de vivir su vida a la mayor plenitud
posible. |

Andrea Moss, LMT
Licensed Massage Therapist
Born and raised in Burlington, Colorado, Andrea eventually
ended up in Fort Collins, Colorado where she attended The Healing
Arts Institute of Massage Therapy. In 1998 she graduated from
massage school and started her career in a small Day Spa, eventually
starting her own massage business with two Chiropractors. In
2004 she moved to Colorado Springs and continues to build her
massage business into a full-time career. The Diabetes Care
Center is proud to utilize Andrea’s skills to offer patients
another aspect of diabetes self-management; Stress Reduction!
